Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 30, 2026.
Save Image as Type converts pictures inside your browser. The picture you save is never uploaded to us or to any conversion service. This policy explains everything the extension and this website do with data, in plain words.
The short version
- Pictures are decoded and re-encoded on your device. They are not sent anywhere.
- The extension does not read, record or send the pages you visit.
- Settings live in your Chrome profile. There is no account.
- The extension may send anonymous usage counts and error reports to our own servers. They never include pictures, page addresses or anything you typed.
What happens when you save a picture
- You right-click a picture and choose a format.
- Chrome downloads that picture from its address, the same way it does when you view it.
- If the server refuses a direct download, the extension asks the open tab for the same picture. This is a one-time read of that one picture, with the permissions the page already has.
- The picture is converted in a hidden extension page on your device and handed to Chrome’s downloads.
No other page content is read. The picture is not stored by the extension after the download starts.
What is stored on your device
Chrome’s extension storage keeps:
- your settings: enabled formats, quality, the file name pattern and the save-dialog switch;
- the popup language you picked;
- a short note about the last save (the file name or an error code), shown in the popup;
- simple counters, such as how many saves finished and whether you dismissed the rating or feedback prompt;
- a random install identifier used only for anonymous statistics.
Removing the extension deletes all of it.
Anonymous statistics and error reports
To see whether the extension works and where it fails, it can send:
- Usage events to our self-hosted Umami server (
umami.extsite.tech): install, update, opening the popup or the welcome page, and save attempts with the chosen format and the result (success or an error code). Each event carries the random install identifier, your browser language and screen size. - Error reports to our self-hosted GlitchTip server (
glitchtip.extsite.tech): the error message and a technical tag such as which step failed.
These never include the picture, its address, the page address, the sites you visit, file names or any text you type. We don’t sell this data, use it for advertising or share it with third parties.
Permissions and why they are needed
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Context menus | Adds the format entries to a picture’s right-click menu. |
| Downloads | Saves the converted file and, if you choose, opens the save dialog. |
| Storage | Keeps your settings and the counters listed above. |
| Offscreen | Runs the conversion in a hidden extension page on your device. |
| Scripting | Reads the picture through the open tab when a server blocks a direct download. |
| Access to all sites | Pictures can be on any site, so the extension needs to fetch the one you chose wherever it lives. |
Feedback forms
When you uninstall the extension, Chrome opens a short survey at feedback.extsite.tech. After many saves, the popup may offer an ideas form at features.extsite.tech. Both only receive the product name and what you choose to write. Filling them in is optional.
This website
This site uses self-hosted Umami analytics to count page views. It doesn’t set advertising cookies or build profiles. Links to the Chrome Web Store take you to Google’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
Children
The extension is a general-purpose tool and is not aimed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If the extension starts handling data differently, we will update this page before that version is released and change the date at the top.
